LOCATION
Mentone Girls' Secondary College is situated in the southern suburbs of Melbourne, conveniently located between Cheltenham and Mentone Stations, and with bus access along Charman and Balcombe Roads.
The College specialises in providing a high quality education designed to develop confident and well disciplined young women. The current enrolment is approximately 1100 girls.

TRADITION
The College has a proud tradition of encouraging girls to achieve their full potential.

Miss Nina Carr, the founding Headmistress in 1955, was passionately committed to the education of girls and encouraged high aspirations and expectations in her students.
This proud tradition is both valued and continued through the vision of the present School Council and Principal.

VISION
The College asserts the value of single sex education and of providing our students with access to every aspect of modern society. The skills of leadership and decision making are nurtured and developed in our young women who are the leaders of the future.

The College has a statewide reputation for excellence with a strong demand for places at all year levels.
Student mastery and control of the new technologies, which will dominate the future, is strongly emphasised across the curriculum.

As part of preparing our students for their participation in a global community, the College has also developed a sister school relationship and exchange program with Shiga Girls' High School in Japan.

JUNIOR SCHOOL TRANSITION PROGRAM
At Mentone, a carefully planned transition program creates a sense of belonging for our new students.
This program includes a three day overnight camp designed to foster positive student interaction.
It allows the Year 7 students to develop the social confidence they need to feel happy and secure in their new school.

Support for our 'Year Sevens' includes a Significant Teacher Program in which teachers are able to more closely monitor each student's progress and welfare, and a Peer Support Program which provides each new student with a Year 10 mentor.

DISCIPLINE
The College believes that students best achieve their educational goals in an orderly and structured classroom environment in which the girls develop self-confidence and self-discipline, along with consideration for the needs of others.
The College encourages courteous and responsible behaviour, respect for self and respect for others.
The wearing of school uniform, which is compulsory at all levels, reflects this ethos.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PERSONAL GROWTH AND CHOICE
As young adolescents grow towards increased self reliance, the curriculum at Middle School balances core studies with a wide choice of electives.

Exciting opportunities are available for students to develop their artistic potential through a full range of studies in the Visual and Performing Arts.

These areas generate a rich variety of extra-curricular activities with students actively and enthusiastically participating in the Concert Band, choirs, drama productions, the College Musical, Rock Eisteddfod and art exhibitions.
A large Instrumental Music Program caters for over 300 students.
Technology based electives develop confidence and practical skills in Electronics, Wood, Mechanics, Food and Textiles. Student exhibits are consistent winners at the Royal Melbourne and other regional shows.

The physical development of students is well catered for through the strong Outdoor Education, Physical Education and Sports programs.

Past students include world class athletes like Linley Frame (swimming) and Kirsty Marshall (skiing). Recent sports champions include Zeena McLaughlin and Trudi McIntosh (Commonwealth Games gold medallists in Gymnastics).
The College offers The Duke of Edinhurgh Award to Middle School students to develop community spirit and a sense of personal challenge.

SENIOR SCHOOL
Senior School provides a supportive and active environment where young adults growing towards independence are extended intellectually and personally.

Academic focus is on the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) with over 40 units from which students can choose. Over 850% of our Year 12 students proceed to tertiary studies.

A strong work ethic and team culture of co-operation and support between staff and students is central to the life of our Senior School.

Senior School students are provided with extensive course and career counselling.
VCE, Vocational Education and Training, and Tertiary Enhancement programs are available in order to maximise every student's opportunities. Accelerated VCE placement is a further option for students.

FACILITIES
The College has developed a Master Plan called Vision 2000 to provide a blueprint for the continuing development of its facilities. A state of the art gymnasium has recently been completed and a Performing Arts Centre is the next major project.

The Dennis Technology Centre is a statewide centre for excellence in mechanics, wood and electronics. The College has strongly embraced the new technologies, with all students having extensive access to computers, the Internet and e-mail in the classrooms and the well equipped Library.
